Over two years later, the big ape is back in the same title, but this time on a smaller platform. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D drops one gimmick for another, replacing mandatory waggle control with an optional 3D aspect, and as you could imagine this does make the game more enjoyable. The actual value of re-playing through the game however is sure to be the question for most DK fans out there, so does this return of a return bode well? "

Post Arcade: "I'm not sure gamers who already played the original will find the 3DS edition of Donkey Kong Country Returns a worthwhile investment. Its polished and fun easily one of the top side-scrolling platformers yet released for Nintendos handheld but theres just not much significant new material here. The only truly fresh content is located at games end. A ninth world with eight new levels arguably harder than that precede them acts as a nice little bonus for anyone who makes it through the 60-or-so original levels and boss fights. Its a welcome addition, but hardly worth $35."
